Scripture Song of Isaiah 2:22

“Cease Ye From Man”

Commentary on Isaiah 2:22

by Living Faith Fellowship

It is human nature to value and respect the things we can touch and see, and to neglect or distrust those things which we cannot. Like the children of Israel, we prefer to lean on an arm of flesh rather than the hand of God - no matter how many times that Hand has been demonstrated. We fear the wrath of men more than we do the judgment of God, and love the praise of men more than the approval of the all-powerful Creator.

The Bible tells us that the man who puts his trust in man is cursed and will be destroyed, but the man who trusts in God will prosper and be blessed (Jer. 17:5-8). Likewise, the fear of man brings a snare, but whoever puts his trust in God will be safe (Prov. 29:25).

The message could not be more clear: Man, who gets his every breath from God, is nothing; God, who gives that breath, is everything. Trust placed in man is always misplaced.
