Scripture Song of I Corinthians 13:12

“For Now We See Through A Glass”

Commentary on I Corinthians 13:12

by Living Faith Fellowship

As children, we all had our share of naive ideas about the world. Some of us believed that the earth couldn't be round because people would fall off the South Pole. Others thought the sky was a solid blue roof, and wondered how space ships could break through it to reach the moon.

Paul tells us that adults understand the spiritual world in the same way children understand the physical world (1 Cor. 13:11). We have ideas that make sense to us, but one day we will look back and see how far we fell short of the true picture.

The only way we can understand anything in the eternal realm is through God's Word, revealed to us by his Spirit. Even then, we can see only a dim reflection of his plan, obscured by the dark glass of mortality. Until that dark glass is removed in eternity, we can only know in part - but we can trust completely in the One who knows all.
