Scripture Song of Proverbs 28:13

“He That Covereth His Sins”

Commentary on Proverbs 28:13

by Living Faith Fellowship

When He walked the earth, our Lord rebuked the religious leaders of his day for making clean "the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess." This reference to an actual Pharisaical tradition (!) contains a lesson for us today: God is not impressed with our outward show of devotion to Him, but is interested in the actual state of our heart.

Some of us who have placed our faith in Christ, though we have acknowledged our sinful nature, have not made "walking in the light" (1 Jn. 1:7) a way of life. When God's Spirit convicts of sin, we would do well to heed this bit of wisdom from Solomon. Come clean and get clean. His mercy is great! His grace is free!
